Membership Application

Fire Engineers may, originally, have qualified in some other branch of science or engineering or, perhaps, in an apparently unrelated subject such as law. Four years professional practice related to fire engineering, assessed by the Membership Committee, may allow entry to the Associate grade of membership.

Alternatively, Fire Engineers may qualify at three different levels through the annual examinations of the Institution or through suitably validated courses and, if desired, proceed to a degree in Fire Engineering by following a university degree course. Two of those degrees have already been accredited as fulfilling the academic requirements for Chartered Engineering status.

Further to the Engineering Council granting the Institution Nominated Body Status, IFE members with appropriate qualifications and experience now have the option to join the IFE Engineering Council Division, and be registered Chartered Engineers, Incorporated Engineers or Engineering Technicians.

In addition, IFE (Singapore Branch) members enjoy the following benefits:

  • Status as a competent and professional fire engineer.
  • Free subscription to International Fire Professional published by IFE (UK) to keep our members abreast of new fire technologies and activities of IFE branches worldwide.
  • Free quarterly IFE newsletter to update our members on the latest information pertaining to Fire Safety & Shelter Department’s (FSSD) and other authorities; rules and regulations.
  • An opportunity to network with fellow professionals.
  • Discounted rates for participation in conferences, seminars and workshops organized by IFE and affiliated organizations.
  • Discounted rates for participation in continuing educational courses courses organized by affiliated organizations and allied Institutions.
  • Free annual dinner at Annual General Meeting.
